When I was growing up, One of the MOST FUN things we ever did, was a “Game Night”. Open invite, same night, every week, whoever shows up, we’ll have fun. Some of the best memories I have in my life come from those nights, and those friends. It’s time to do that now, with new friends, and opening my home to anyone who needs a night of fun and just hanging out!
My Daughter and I were talking, and as I step into the path that I feel called to…. the wisdom of a 5yr old opens my mind and softens my heart again……
Dad, if you’re trying to do things WITH people, and you have people over at the house… why don’t you do that when I’m here?
My gut, and at that moment, truthful answer was “Because Kiddo, Time is ALL I have, and when I don’t get much time with you, I wan’t you to have 100% of my time when you’re here.”
however, That is another “shadow path”, because Yes, the TIME I spend with her, is focused on Jesus, and how I apply my faith in just about everything I do now… She see’s me wake up early to pray and read the bible, she sees me talking to people, and doing things in public, but I don’t really “make plans” with anyone when I know my daughter is going to be at home with me…. and it was through her question with wisdom FAR beyond my kiddo’s age… and it kinda cut like a knife.
She sees me with friends at work, and helps at work… but I haven’t had anyone OVER…..
So I’m changing that…..
Going forward. Saturday Nights, we’ll be planning a “Game night”. It will end up being Movies/Games/Fire/Hangout or whatever we end up doing. from 5:30 until around 7pm (Kiddo still has a bedtime, and Church in the morning). Even if my daughter and I end up spending some of those Saturday’s without anyone coming, It’s okay, because whatever “fun” we’re doing, will be open for any who want to join.
My goal, going forward in life, is to spend as MUCH of my time, with living breathing HUMAN people, being a witness to the life-changing power of the Holy Spirit… and There is no better way to show people who you are, than to invite them into your sancuary spaces, and sharing where you live…. where you surround yourself with the important things. Family and Friends are what is important to me…. my “Pack” if you will….
